Old Paso courthouse now houses Wallace Home Medical Supplies

The old Paso Robles courthouse is now home to Wallace Home Medical Supplies, which uses the 3,300-square-foot space for its showroom and offices.

A local businessman who acquired the old Paso Robles courthouse that San Luis Obispo County auctioned off in 2011 has reopened the building with a revamped look.

Wallace Home Medical Supplies now uses the 3,300-square-foot space for its showroom and offices.

Founder and president Trago Wallace said he paid $470,000 for the building at 549 10th St. and invested an additional $140,000 on renovations.

The building was first auctioned off to buyer Richard H. Lenz for $377,500. Wallace previously said Lenz fixed up the structure and sold it to him at a profit.

Wallace began construction in fall 2012. Work wrapped up in mid-March.

The company, which opened in 2004 at 1414 Park St. downtown, has eight employees. It sells such items as hospital beds, wheelchairs, wrist braces and oxygen supplies. The move helped triple the size of the showroom.

Interior work to transform the old courthouse into a business included knocking down walls to combine spaces for a more spacious, open interior, Wallace said.

He also added a main entrance to the rear of the building, a parking lot in the back and worked on disabled access by improving the parking, adding a ramp and enlarging a bathroom.

The company also repainted and put in new floors.

Trago worked to keep some features from the courthouse days present, including keeping the flagpole and the traffic ticket window near the front entrance.

The courthouse, at 549 10th St., became vacant in 2008 with the opening of the new courthouse at 10th and Park streets.

The county had twice before tried to sell the property, only to come up with no bidders.

We Have Moved!

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013

After 9 years sharing a space with Paso Robles Physical Therapy we have moved to our own location.

549 10th St used to be the Paso Robles Courthouse until a few years ago when they built a new one a few blocks away.  Now it is our new home.

Our new showroom is more than double the size of our old showroom.  We now have a private fitting room where we can help fit you for braces, mastectomy products and stockings.   We also now have a private customer care room where we can sit down with you as we go over Medicare and insurance paperwork.  We have a large parking lot behind the building as well as a new main entrance in the rear.

Come visit us today and see what we’ve done with the place!
